Lift With Your Head

Lift With Your Head At present there exists no one text I can point to that is a manifesto for Mental Meat Heads.  In part that is intentional.  As Mental Meat Heads we all need to come to our own conclusions.  The purpose of Mental Meat Heads is not to tell you what to think about health and fitness but to encourage you to think about it. Don’t just swallow what the mainstream media finds profitable at the moment, put your own brain to work, explore, experiment and come to your own conclusions. But, if I was asked for a… Read More »

Big Man Strong

Now, if you’ve followed me for a while you know I’m all about supporting my friends.  In fact, for me, that’s one of the main reasons I work to be strong and capable.  I want to be of service in this world and I take care of myself so that I’m in a position to help others.  It’s pretty basic, if you got nothin’, you got nothin’ to give. Anyway, my good friend and fellow giant, Teiko Reindorf has a new product on the market, it’s called Big Man Strong.  That’s Teiko, sitting on the right next to Chris Barnard… Read More »

Chris Dwelle

Today it is my extreme pleasure to introduce my good friend, Chris Dwelle.  Chris and I met at Elliott Hulse’s first in-house seminar in St. Petersburg, Florida in the fall of 2011.  We quickly found common ground and before the weekend was over had become fast friends. Chris lives in Augusta, Maine and runs his own facility, Impact Strength and Fitness.  His passion for strength and it’s ability to change lives is evident in everything he does.  Check out his YouTube channel where he chronicles not only his own journey, but shares the growth of his gym and clients as well.… Read More »

Mental Meat Heads

I’ve got that after Christmas feeling. Not the one where you’re all bloated from too much turkey and sweets and disappointed that you didn’t get that pony again this year, but the one that’s the natural denouement that comes from getting all ramped up for something awesome, and it was awesome, but now it’s over and you’ve got to start thinking about going back to school, maybe even finish that book report you were putting off. This past weekend was nothing short of amazing – the culmination of several months effort and planning, but also the high point of my… Read More »

Why?

I’m listening to a book right now entitled Start with Why: How Great Leaders Inspire Everyone to Take Action. It’s written by Simon Sinek The premise of the book is that all great leaders, both leaders of people and industry, from Martin Luther King, Jr. to Apple, Inc, start with their own fundamental “Why.” This is the big “Why.” The one that explains everything they do and guides the “How” and “What” they do. Take me, for instance. The “What” of what I do is that I run a gym and offer personal training services. My “How” is the way… Read More »

Making Gains

A long time client of the personal training side of the gym approached me late in the afternoon one day earlier this week. Our gym is on his walking route and he always stops by for water. I was pacing the open space of my gym on the phone with my wife (to his credit I was using headphones and the speaker option so it wasn’t readily apparent that I was on the phone.) He looked at me and pointedly asked, “Are you putting on weight?” “Yep,” I said. “On purpose?” “Yep.” With a look of absolute incredulity he asked,… Read More »

Wild One

All too often the face we present to the world is our copy of someone we think is more successful than we are.  Most of us, steeped in our own insecurities, feel that we’ll be better received that way. The truth is the world wants you.  That’s why you were made in the first place.  Shine your own truth.  Show your own face.  Be you. To our perfect imperfection, Dave Read More »

Old Dog, New Tricks

The definition of insanity is doing the same thing over and over again and expecting a different result.  For the past few months I’ve been banging my head against a proverbial wall trying to expand my outreach and really all I’ve gotten is a headache. For those of you who have stick with me over the past few months, diligently reading my posts and even commenting from time to time, I thank you, from the bottom of my heart. My goal of expanding my outreach, however, has been painstakingly slow and I cannot help but think that part of that… Read More »
