5 Steps to Overcoming Homeostasis

Whether you’ve made the decision to jump on board with the Elimination Diet this month or still haven’t made up your mind, this post is for you. There’s a old Taoist joke that runs, “Change is the only constant in the world.” Change it seems is the only thing we can truly count on in this world. Don’t like the weather? Stick around it’ll change. Don’t like our current political climate? Give it some time, it’ll change too. Nothing is static forever. Which is funny because most of us don’t like change all that much. Change is unpredictable, it’s chaotic… Read More »

January’s Elimination Diet Challenge!

If you’re local you’ve probably heard me mention at some point that we’re doing an Elimination Diet Challenge for the month of January. The purpose of such a diet is really quite simple. There are several foods within what we could term the Typical Western Diet that most of us actually have a hard time with. We don’t digest them as well as we might think and it’s possible that our bodies response to these irritants actually impairs our overall digestion and ability to assimilate nutrition. So why isn’t this obvious? Like the protagonist in a Dostoevsky novel, it turns… Read More »

Josh Serrano

Meet Josh Serrano. Josh is one of those young guys I love to interview. At 21 he has a clear sense of purpose and direction. At 21, I could have barely told you what I wanted to do today let alone with my life. Part of Josh’s sense of direction comes from having nearly lost it all at a young age. At 10 Josh suffered a stroke. It left him paralyzed on one side of his body. At 12 he was gifted with a set of weights by his grandfather and he’s been training ever since. Listen in as… Read More »

Mental Meat Heads 2

Hoo boy. This just might be a mistake. This was supposed to be a joint interview with Jason C. Brown and Chip Conrad, a slick marketing ploy to help promote our upcoming workshop, Mental Meat Heads 2, September 21 and 22, in Indianapolis, Indiana. It would probably be better titled Laugh Track with Three Goobs. If we’re lucky there’s some intelligible material here, after all we are pros and really good at what we do. But the thing is whenever the three of us get together we just end up having so much fun. Which is exactly what you’ll be doing… Read More »

Ryan Magin

In the past week or so since I recorded this week’s interview I have had three separate conversations with guys concerned over “just not feeling as manly as they once did.” During that same period I saw this article and an accompanying documentary discussing how our modern lifestyles are robbing of us of our manhood. Now having grown up in a feminist household with mothers more than a little bitter over “typical males” and the over abundance of too much testosterone in our lives I have to admit getting stuck a little over writing the above sentence. After all I think… Read More »

Of Plans and Purpose

I love it when a plan comes together. That’s the catch phrase of one of my childhood heroes, John “Hannibal” Smith of the A-Team. Actually, my real hero was Mr. T., who played heavy muscle and mechanical genius B. A. Barracus of the aforementioned team, but “I pity the fool” doesn’t really play into today’s blog post. And truth be told I’m stretching Hannibal’s catch phrase because in all honesty I’m not much of a planner. I just sort of head off on a particular path and then revel afterwards about how everything seems to fall into place of it’s… Read More »

85 days…and counting

So, by my count I have 85 days left in this diet Eric Hulse has prescribed for me. I have never wanted a summer to pass so quickly before. At present I feel like shit. My muscles feel flat, my energy is low and every little ache and pain is glaringly apparent. Oh yeah, and my attitude and general demeanor are shitty, too. If you can’t tell I’m an absolute joy to be around and here we are just five days in. The first part of the week wasn’t so bad but I totally bottomed out on Friday. I don’t… Read More »

What the f*ck do I put on my potato?

A few weeks ago I told you all about hiring Eric Hulse to help me with some health issues. After a visit to my doctor earlier this spring I got back some blood work that I felt, as a professional in the health and fitness industry, was less than stellar. My blood pressure hovers at borderline high, as does my A1-C1 or blood sugar levels. My energy levels are not as high as I’d like them and to be honest, neither is my libido. Last fall, when I stopped intermittent fasting, I saw a jump in body weight that I… Read More »

Man Seeks Advice for His Stoner Brother

A few days ago, this was in my in-box. Yo! Dave, What’s up man..hope all is well. I have question I was hoping you could help me with. My little brother (18 yrs) is a freshmen in college. He is very talented baseball player, and used to work hard and wanted to be the best. He has been smoking pot almost everyday for almost a year and is now losing motivation to be his best. He has almost got busted a few times, but sees nothing wrong with w/smoking cuz it’s “natural.” What helped you? Any thoughts/advice would be greatly… Read More »
