Happy New Year!

It’s Jan 2nd and by now your inbox, your Instagram feed, and your Facebook wall should be full of “experts” with less than two decades of real life experience telling you all the things you need to know in order to have a healthy, happy, and prosperous 2017.

Only here’s the thing. They can’t tell you anything you don’t already know.

It’s okay. I get it and I’ve fallen for this sort of thing plenty of times myself and will probably fall for it again before all is said and done. It’s an easy play, especially this time of year. New Year’s is a time for new beginnings and new hope and all the feels that go along with that.

Many of feel us like 2016 pooped all over us and we really need something good to happen. Some new program or product that promises to answer all of our problems looks like the very thing we’ve been looking for. It’s only $19, $39 or 4 easy installments of $99.99…

But you already know what you need to do. The reasons for why things don’t go the way you want them to have always been clear. You stare them in the face every single day. What you want is for someone to do it for you....only, that’s not how it works. Even if someone could do it for you it wouldn’t work, because it’s the doing that is the entire point.

If you pay close enough attention to the truly “successful people” you come to see two things.

1. They define success for themselves. They don't just follow what everyone else says it is.

2. Once they achieve whatever it is they set out to achieve, they immediately set out to achieve something else. Why? Because they’ve figured out that it’s not the having that is the point - it’s the getting, more specifically it’s the process of getting, the struggle, the pursuit, the journey.

So, whatever it is you want, you don’t have to spend money learning someone else’s system for how to get it. You just need to get up and go get it. You’ll be amazed at what you learn along the way.

To our perfect imperfection,

Dave
