#Noshirtnoshoesnoshame

I’ve noticed this new thing in my Facebook feed lately. Friends of mine, specifically female friends of the yogic persuasion, have been posting pictures of themselves in various yoga poses wearing naught but a sports bra and yoga pants. It’s all part of an Instagram project started by two yogis, Thea Pueschel and Melissa Scott, set to run July 1st through the 10th. It’s entitled #noshirtnoshoesnoshame and its purpose is to combat the pervasive body shaming our culture indulges in. At first blush I was like, “Hooray!” I mean, who doesn’t want more female bodies adorning their Facebook feed? It’s … Read More »

An Open Letter to the Renaissance Hotel Valet

This past weekend my wife and I celebrated our 20th wedding anniversary at the Renaissance hotel in Nashville, Tennessee. My wife, Samantha, was driving and as she was turning our vehicle over to the valet an exchange took place that I was not privy to and thus must unfortunately register my opinion here and after the fact. As Samantha was gathering her things the valet commented on the shortness of her skirt and asked that she alert him as to when she was getting out so that he might turn his back and thus not risk any “exposure” on her … Read More »

Zao Jun’s Kitchen

Our lives are not in the lap of the gods, but in the laps of our cooks. — Lin Yutang In Chinese mythology, Zao Jun is the kitchen god.The importance of the kitchen in Chinese culture is evident in Zao Jun’s yearly duty to report to the Jade Emperor, Yu Huang, on the goings on of each household. The Jade Emperor rewards good deeds with good fortune and misdeeds with ill in the coming year. As the kitchen was seen as the center of every home, Zao Jun was well informed, indeed. Now I’m not Chinese and the idea of … Read More »

I know that many of you are hanging on with abated breath, waiting for the latest tidbits from my dietary changes and work with Eric Hulse. And I don’t blame you, I find it infinitely fascinating. I mean, who wouldn’t, right? I had intended to wait until this whole process was finished. However, if you remember we started this journey way back in June and the rabbit hole, it seems, just gets deeper and deeper. I’m not sure when it will be done. Dan John turned me onto an interesting concept that he in turn got from Gnolls.org. Plan the … Read More »

Josh Serrano

Meet Josh Serrano. Josh is one of those young guys I love to interview. At 21 he has a clear sense of purpose and direction. At 21, I could have barely told you what I wanted to do today let alone with my life. Part of Josh’s sense of direction comes from having nearly lost it all at a young age. At 10 Josh suffered a stroke. It left him paralyzed on one side of his body. At 12 he was gifted with a set of weights by his grandfather and he’s been training ever since. Listen in as … Read More »
