5 Steps to Overcoming Homeostasis

Whether you’ve made the decision to jump on board with the Elimination Diet this month or still haven’t made up your mind, this post is for you. There’s a old Taoist joke that runs, “Change is the only constant in the world.” Change it seems is the only thing we can truly count on in this world. Don’t like the weather? Stick around it’ll change. Don’t like our current political climate? Give it some time, it’ll change too. Nothing is static forever. Which is funny because most of us don’t like change all that much. Change is unpredictable, it’s chaotic… Read More »

January’s Elimination Diet Challenge!

If you’re local you’ve probably heard me mention at some point that we’re doing an Elimination Diet Challenge for the month of January. The purpose of such a diet is really quite simple. There are several foods within what we could term the Typical Western Diet that most of us actually have a hard time with. We don’t digest them as well as we might think and it’s possible that our bodies response to these irritants actually impairs our overall digestion and ability to assimilate nutrition. So why isn’t this obvious? Like the protagonist in a Dostoevsky novel, it turns… Read More »

Bad Saag!

I know that many of you are hanging on with abated breath, waiting for the latest tidbits from my dietary changes and work with Eric Hulse. And I don’t blame you, I find it infinitely fascinating. I mean, who wouldn’t, right? I had intended to wait until this whole process was finished. However, if you remember we started this journey way back in June and the rabbit hole, it seems, just gets deeper and deeper. I’m not sure when it will be done. Dan John turned me onto an interesting concept that he in turn got from Gnolls.org. Plan the… Read More »

Kyle Winchell

Meet Kyle Winchell. Kyle is one of the Merry Pranksters of Fitness from the Bodytribe in Sacramento, California. Kyle, in particular, is responsible for bringing his own flavor of play based training to Bodytribe with the addition of Hot Lava Tag. Originally, Hot Lava Tag was just a way for the trainers to blow off steam after work. Soon locals passing by would see them at play and ask to join the game. Now it’s a regular phenomenon drawing in new participants every week. Kyle’s even in the process of “formalizing” it into a league. Listen in as we… Read More »

Strength! Uh! What is it Good For?

“Why do you need to be strong?” “Aren’t you strong enough?” “Isn’t that a selfish/vain pursuit?” Believe it or not, these are actual questions. I know, I know, it’s hard to contemplate and every time I do, my brain makes this little popping sound and wisps of smoke escape from my ears. I really think I need to get a handle on this before some serious damage is done. For more people than I would like to admit these are actually serious questions and, in relation to their own life experiences, legitimate. After all, in this post millennial era what… Read More »

Josh Serrano

Meet Josh Serrano. Josh is one of those young guys I love to interview. At 21 he has a clear sense of purpose and direction. At 21, I could have barely told you what I wanted to do today let alone with my life. Part of Josh’s sense of direction comes from having nearly lost it all at a young age. At 10 Josh suffered a stroke. It left him paralyzed on one side of his body. At 12 he was gifted with a set of weights by his grandfather and he’s been training ever since. Listen in as… Read More »
